No root on Ubuntu
Yes the title says it all. Ubuntu has no root user by default. Well at least that is what they tell there users. There root user is still there, just locked out with no password. Also, apparently there are some applications that don’t understand root after you enable it that or they need a password less root account. While this can be good for new users, it still introduces a unique position for many people and also it can make recovery of the system much harder.
**Update**
Ok I though about it a bit more and actually it’s not that bad, and it makes some new users a bit more secure by default. Though I still dislike the locked out root account, it’s mostly from my personal opinion. I think that at least they should make it pass worded so it’s harder to bypass a system startup. Though I must admit, I disable the root password requirement for my Linux boxes at home and setup my self up to use sudo with out a password. I do really like sudo.
And on a more personal note, I’ve started really looking at apartments hardcore to find one for when I separate from Mare, in September. There was another fight about the same old "You do that to me but I can’t do that to you" junk at home. I've just stopped fighting because it’s not really worth it. I mean why bother it never gets anywhere and it’s pointless. Also Mare's now going on about a getting another dog. I mean come one, we can barely afford to have Gim and Tas now, and the cats, and the Birds. I mean WTF is she thinking. Well I'm just saying I can’t wait until I move out.
