Myth TV Rocks

I recently got my hands on a Hauppage PVR-150 from NewEgg since I do not have a TV as of yet. It makes for a very good card in Linux. Setup of it was a bit of a pain. The drivers for ivtv did not want to build due to missing kernel options. The menuconfig for the kernel was not as clear as I would like as to what drivers I needed. I ended up just putting them at the end of the kernel configuration and a "make oldconfig". Reboot and ivtv installed with out issues.

I was playing around with some methods of watching TV. Mplayer and using a terminal (or a key config) to change channels worked well but I wanted some more advanced features to use. I have looked at MythTV for a while and had been wanting to build a home built DVR.

Some of the features of MythTV are just awesome. I can pause live Tv. Setup record times, and have MythTV flag the commercials so I don't have to watch them. That is just some of the features.

I also am working on getting MythTV to allow me to rip all my DVD's into a format so that I can just play them off a file rather then having to put in the DVD every time. It allows for such nice abilities.

A couple of issues I have been having with MythTV are kinda confusing but workable. One thing that annoys me is that MythWeather does not work for properly pulling the weather information. Also I have not been able to get xawtv to pull and give me the TV channel icons for MythTV. Both are low on my priority list, and will be dealt with as I get time. One thing I'm trying to figure out is if MythTV has a radio feature so that I can use the Radio on my PVR-150. Back to Googleing. :D

I also had to get some new speakers a while ago so that since my old speakers finally gave up the ghost. I picked up some 2.1 speakers with a small bass thumper. They give out VERY good sound. Clean and clear, just like speakers should be.

Now I need to get my appartment comples to actually properly install the wall plate for the cable. Its comeing out of the wall and its annoying me.

Over all I'm very happy with MythTV and the PVR-150. Very good and works very well. It even works in pretty well in Windows.
